All gardens need focal pieces, and a friend named Enyo shared a few of her favorite pieces with me this week.
Enyo is lucky enough to travel the world with her husband due to his work with a popular architectural firm. They’ve spent a few years off and on in a several different countries, and regions of the United States, and picked up some beautiful pieces of outdoor pottery, and concrete moulding along the way. Her favorite garden accents are these re-claimed concrete moulding pieces from job sites that the firm was renovating.

Not only do they stand out in the garden bed borders, and evoke a classical period feeling, but they hold special meaning for her as well. The mouldings remind her of the places that she and her husband have traveled to, and make their garden feel authentic and ‘their own,’ no matter the zip-code.
She has found several pieces like these architectural moulding pieces in antique stores, and specialty shops to share with people who enjoy the look of her yard, but her advice to fellow gardeners is this: personalize your yard with decorations that hold special meaning for you as an individual. “Don’t be bound by what catalogues, and garden centers classify as outdoor accents.”
“The best decorations to relax with in your yard at the end of the day,” she says “are the ones that hold special meaning for you, and bring great memories to mind.”
She and her husband also created their own pedestals out of pressed board, nails, and paint! What a great idea to show off your own “gallery” of art and architecture! Beautiful work, and great use of found objects.
Thanks for sharing your yard with us Enyo!
