Zosimos Botanicals: Natural Beauty Products

Even Gardenistas need a little help polishing their look for an evening out after an afternoon in the garden! I’ve found a great new product line made of all natural ingredients that will not only make you look great, but reduce your impact on the environment at the same time.

I was at a fair recently for vendors specializing in natural img 1533 300x225 Zosimos Botanicals: Natural Beauty Productsproducts, when I stumbled unexpectedly across Linda Stein, creator of Zosimos Botanicals, and her array of 100% green make-up and beauty products. I was drawn to her booth by the myriad of colorful containers, and scented soaps artfully arranged through it, and was impressed with her knowledge of the natural beauty industry, and the mainstream commercial one.  Linda, the owner, is a former attorney who’s one-time hobby in make-up creation rapidly became a full time obsession and career, and she’s perfected recipes for foundations, blushes, concealers, perfumes, soaps, and candles for a rapidly growing clientele list.

The products, available nationally since 2004, are 100% natural (plant and mineral based), and have received the endorsement of PETA, the Environmental Working Group (who list her entire product line as having the lowest hazard in the “Skin Deep Database”) and Startup Nation , who listed Zosimos Botanicals as one of the 10 greenest businesses of 2008. Creating products in a 100% wind powered facility, Linda seeks out the best in natural ingredients, and cutting edge beauty technology. Her extensive collections are gentler on the skin than commercial products and contain zero synthetic oils, dyes, talc, or metals.

Wondering if these products could be too good to be true, I questioned Linda about the benefits of mineral make-up over drug store brands, and was pleased with her commitment to use only natural ingredients that have been proven safe, and even beneficial for the skin. Her mineral make-up will not clog the pores of the skin, and is ideal for even those with acne, and skin disorders like eczema, and psoriasis. The price for the blush and perfume products that I purchased was equal to, or several dollars less than similar products sold in specialty beauty supply stores, and is guaranteed to be freshly mixed. The best benefit that comes with Zosimos products is the open door policy with the beauticians, who encourage comments, and suggestions on new colors or fragrances, or ways they they can add to, or perfect their collections.

After talking with Linda,  I purchased the Magnolia blush to replace the blush product  had recently finished, and added to that a small stick of solid perfume in the Jasmine scent.  After one month’s use, I give both of these products excellent reviews, and would happily recommend either of them! My skin looks and feels great!

If you are looking for a new make-up product that is better for your skin, and that is more environmentally friendly from start to finish, check out the Zosimos website for great options you’ll love wearing.

I first tried Zosimos Botanicals – the Primer Prep in March of 2010 – and liked it. Unfortunately, my second purchase in October of 2010 wasn’t quite as successful. I first called ahead to find a darker shade, and was advised on the color. After I bought it and it was delivered to my home, I found it was a lighter shade instead (and now too light for me to use).

And worse yet, I found the October primer preps to burn and itch my skin!

When I contacted the company, I was told that no one there would have given me such color advise, becaue they all know better. (Apparently not!) I was also told that the formula hadn’t changed between March and October. Yet, my skin still had a negative reaction to the most recent purchase only.

I also tried two of the bug sprays over the summer. I didn’t find either of them to be very effective.

My search for the perfect cosmetics continues.
